Biography

Lisa Freese, MS, MEd, CGC is a board-certified genetic counselor who specializes in working with individuals who are planning to become or who are currently pregnant. She works with the Wilson Genetics Center and the Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) program in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Ms. Freese provides genetic counseling regarding prenatal screening and prenatal diagnosis. She also sees individuals and couples for genetic carrier screening, those who have a family history of a genetic condition or birth defect that may affect this or future children, and pregnant women taking medication or having other exposures. Through the MFM program continued care and coordination of management is provided to individuals with pregnancies identified as high risk or with birth defects. Her goal reflects that of the MFM program and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, to make it possible to bring the highest level of up-to-date prenatal screening, testing and care to our patients.

Ms. Freese received her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Master of Science in Genetic Counseling from the University of Pittsburgh. She is board certified in Genetic Counseling. After a year working in Delaware she joined the team at GWU and has been here for over 20 years. In addition to her clinical expertise, Ms. Freese has been a part of the teaching faculty here at the George Washington University Medical School and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the OB/GYN Department. She pursued and attained her Master's in Secondary Education through GWU further enriching her skills in working with students. The teaching atmosphere here at GW brings a level of medical care to our patients not possible at private facilities. She continues to be interested in genetics education as well as ethics and genetics and how it applies to patient care in this time of advancing technology.
