Katie DePalma, MS, CNM, ARNP (pronouns: they/them or she/her) is a Certified Nurse-Midwife with The GW Medical Faculty Associates.  They earned their Bachelor’s degree in biology from Loyola College in Maryland in 2007 and a Bachelor’s in nursing from Johns Hopkins University in 2009. Katie completed graduate school in midwifery at Georgetown University in 2014 and worked as a midwife/nurse practitioner in Baltimore from 2014-2018, attending births at Saint Agnes Hospital. While working there, Katie was part of a nation-wide initiative aimed at reducing the number of primary Cesarean sections.  They also have extensive experience training physicians and nurses in techniques for comfort in labor/labor support. Katie has been teaching graduate students at Georgetown University since 2017 and is excited to pass along that knowledge to our midwifery and medical students here at GW as well. More recently, Katie has been speaking on the local and national levels to educate other providers on providing evidence-based care to gender-diverse clients and also working with clients who have experienced trauma.

Katie approaches wellness and health in a holistic way and believes that medical care should always be an empowering partnership between clients and their providers. They often work with clients who have experienced previous trauma and acknowledge that trauma can limit access to GYN care. They also focus on cultivating a safe environment for members of the LGBTQIA+ community to receive care and understand the complexities of navigating the healthcare system as a sexual/gender minority.

Katie lives in Northeast DC with their partner and their array of pets and houseplants. Their hobbies include: hiking, camping, boxing, meditation, herbalism and cooking.
