This phone line is special for pregnant GW students and is staffed by nurses to help you schedule an appointment with a physician who will be able to provide you with all the information you need to make informed choices.

The GW Medicine OB/GYN Center for Pregnancy Loss and Options provides abortion care and contraception in a private, comfortable, and sensitive environment. We care for patients seeking elective abortion, treatment for miscarriage or fetal death, and pregnancy termination due to health problems of the fetus or pregnant person.
We are dedicated to protecting your privacy. Your personal, medical and billing information will not be shared with anyone – including your family and referring doctor – without your signed consent. All GW doctors, nurses, staff, students, trainees abide by strict federal and state privacy and security regulations.
Our center is integrated into the Department of OB/GYN and our patients are not separately identified.
Cost and Insurance
Many insurance companies will cover the cost of an abortion, including The George Washington University Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) through Aetna Student Health.
Privacy Considerations
If you would like your insurance company to keep your protected health information (PHI) confidential, please call the member services number on the back of your insurance ID card and ask whether your individual plan has a confidentiality request form for protected health information (PHI) including the explanation of benefits (EOBs) so that information is not sent to the insurance policy holder. Your PHI includes who received care, the health care provider, and the type of care obtained. These requests may be completed by minors who are insured as dependents on an insurance plan.
Each insurance payor has different policies about how they handle these requests. Please call your insurance company to confirm if they will accommodate this request.
Cost
GW Medicine offers a self-payment option for both medication and aspiration abortion for people without insurance who do not qualify for Pregnancy-services through their insurance.
The cost ranges from approximately $300 to $1500 depending upon the kind of services required. If you plan on paying cash for services, please let the nurse who schedules your appointment know and we will have a staff member review expected costs based upon your individual anticipated care.
