Amy Caggiula, MD is board certified in Emergency Medicine and is an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences as well as the Assistant Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program.
Dr. Caggiula earned her medical degree here at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Science where she was involved in undergraduate health outreach and was an advocate for sexual assault awareness and substance abuse prevention. She then went on to complete her residency in Emergency Medicine at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s—Roosevelt Hospital Center in New York City. Dr. Caggiula began her academic career in New York City and was previously an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai focusing on diagnosis and prevention of HIV in the acute care setting.
Dr. Caggiula specializes in innovative healthcare solutions with a particular focus on issues relating to effective healthcare delivery in the LGBTQ population. Medical education features prominently in her career, and she is active in both the medical school and the Emergency Medicine Residency, where she serves as the Assistant Program Director. Dr. Caggiula’s research interests lie in LGBTQ health and the development of educational initiatives in medical training aimed at addressing the needs of traditionally disenfranchised populations. She strives to provide her patients with compassionate and evidence-based care and believes in a humanistic approach to medicine.
