Biography

David Barreto, MD is board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology. He is an Assistant Professor of Radiology at the George Washington School of Medicine & Health Sciences. After completing his medical school and radiology residency in Brazil, Dr. Barreto embarked on research fellowships at Baylor College of Medicine and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, where he delved into cutting-edge research in the field of radiology, particularly focusing on cancer imaging and diagnosis. Building upon his research experiences, Dr. Barreto pursued sub specialized clinical training through two-year fellowships in Breast Imaging at George Washington University (GW), further refining his skills in the detection and diagnosis of breast conditions. Additionally, Dr. Barreto also finished a sub-specialization in Neuroradiology at GW, followed by a Pediatric Radiology fellowship at Children’s National Hospital, recognizing the importance of comprehensive care for patients of all ages.

At GW, he currently serves as a member of the Cancer Committee and the Breast Leadership Committee. His research interests include high-risk screening breast imaging, minimally-invasive breast biopsies, breast cancer cryoablation and transgender breast imaging. With his extensive training and commitment to excellence, Dr. Barreto’s primary commitment is providing excellent clinical care through interpretation of advanced breast imaging techniques and state-of-the-art minimally invasive breast procedures.
